Band Camp

Agent J went to band camp for the first time and had a great weekend.  He talked to me all night about what they did at band camp.  Sounds like he likes band.  Can't wait to see what this year brings.

these are the friends I went to band camp with on Sunday morning - FRESHMAN MOMS!

Taking off the training wheels, sort of...

Tomorrow is the first day of school.  My baby is going to kindergarten 1/2 day.  My oldest is going to high school.  My middle two will be in 8th grade and 4th grade.  I am extremely excited for them.  Yet, at the same time, I will miss them.  My big boy is doing freshman football and high school marching band.  He will be gone most days from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m.  I am not excited about this, but I am blessed that he will have seminary in the middle of his day.  Our high school does release time seminary and I feel like this is a gift from my Heavenly Father.  He will have a spiritual uplift and break in his day to ground himself in the truths of the gospel as he gathers himself and gets ready to go to front line sections or football practice or even the mandatory after school study hall for all freshman football players.

My baby is ready for kindergarten and is so excited.  She knows her way around the campus like the back of her hand.  Too bad she will only be allowed in the kinder area.  Silly girl.  She is not one bit nervous.  Today was RHM's bday and she wanted to talk to everyone that called for RHM and tell them about how she gets to go to kindergarten tomorrow.  I will miss her, but I will miss them all.

I am torn up on the inside about how Travis and I are going to handle the kids going to 2 different schools and all of their activities.  RHM is doing Pop Warner football.  Princess is going to try out for school volleyball.  Sweetie is going to do a simple dance class at the community center and thank goodness my friend is taken her every week with her daughter too!  Agent J...well, I already told you about him. He has football games on Wednesday and marching band performances on Friday night football games, and competitions on Saturdays.  FUN!  Next year, I am voting for one activity per kid.

So, the problem is I need to let go.  My kids are leaving in the morning whether I like it or not.  The training wheels need to come off.  I need to push the little ones out of the nest.  I need to be OK with watching them fly.  I want to raise kids to learn to fly, but truthfully...I want them at home when they  fly so I can watch.

I hope (fingers crossed) that I get to go to band camp with Agent J at the end of this week.  I hope (fingers crossed) to get him out of that silly "mandatory" study hall at the school.  There is no better study hall than my home.  But football season doesn't last forever and I will have him home soon enough.  I can do this.  One step at a time.  My only saving grace is that he is 4th string in his position in football.  Otherwise I would be freaking out about seeing him get his brains beat in during a game.  He starts wearing pads tomorrow - oh and so does RHM.  Yay.

Can my kids just go back to being little when life was so much easier?  In other news, Sweetie asked Travis to put her training wheels back on her bike before we went to the beach.  Thank you baby.  I am happy for a little regression right now.

RHM's 9th birthday

RHM's football cake - Thanks Amanda!

blowing out the candles.

Opening his present - I went to the dark side I got him one gift - a DSi

money from Grandmas

cards that point at you and tell you its your bday

DS games

DS cover/ case

more DS games - thanks Grandma Dawn

I think he likes it.
So I never wanted gaming systems in my house, but I must be fading out of my firm rules on how to raise good kids.  I buckled and got RHM his only wish - a DS gaming system.  We just have lots of rules, like 30 minutes, it stays charged downstairs and not in your room, etc.

All in all, it was a great birthday weekend.  Tonight we also did father's blessings for the first day of school.  It was nice and touching to see my husband and their father use his priesthood power to bless us with a good school year.  Heavenly Father's spirit was in my home tonight.  YAY!
