BIRTHDAY WEEK
My friend, Trevlyn, is celebrating her esty shop's birthday with a giveaway. Her shop is adorable and she makes the most precious softies in the world. I wish I had her eye for putting things together. Check out the details about the giveaway here. I order my bunnies from her every Easter. LOVE THEM! Although, I don't know why I am telling you about this particular giveaway. I hope to be the WINNER!
Trevlyn is offering a choice for the winner, so if you win (and I don't) pick the other one.
Speaking of my youngest, Sweetie's birthday is tomorrow. I will be SUPER BUSY preparing for a party that night. A party for the Cub Scout Blue and Gold banquet (birthday of scouting). Birthday, birthday and more birthdays.
So the plan is to bring 2 candles to the Blue and Gold and put them in someone else's cake from the cake decorating contest and call it good. Sweetie won't notice, right? Watch for the "fake" blowing out the candles picture coming late tomorrow night. (You can call me Slacker Mom! Just so you don't think the worst, check out what I did last year for my Sweetie, here and here.)

Lots to do

So I have a lot on my plate (Blue and Gold & Sweetie's birthday) and I am getting a little overwhelmed. I decided the best thing to do was to buckle down and go on a bike ride.
Avoidance.
Works like a charm.

Today, RHM decided not to ride his bike, so my load was a little heavier than normal.

My son, the extortionist or is he just accepting bribes?
extort - (Äk-stôrt') tr.v. To obtain from another by coercion or intimidation.
bribe -[brahyb] noun Anything given or serving to persuade or induce. The children were given candy as a bribe to be good.
It was reported 2 days ago, that RHM, Audra's 3rd child, accepted $0.69 from his older brother's friend to never come in said friend's room again.

Further research on this suspect has led the investigator to find large sums of money in this 5 years old's possession. After some questioning, it has been revealed that Oldest and Princess will pay RHM frequently to:
All money accounts in the house have been frozen in hopes that bribes will soon stop!

Day off
So what do you do if you are a mom of 4 with no school on a Monday and your house is a mess?
Well if you are me, you bribe them a 10:50 a.m. movie and tell them to do a list of jobs or they can't go to the movie. The three oldest kids all cleaned a bathroom, a room of their choice in the house and folded laundry. It worked like a charm. Movies before noon cost $5 a ticket, so it cost me $20 for a clean house. So worth it! Call me a mean mom. I can handle it.

Kids keepin us busy, but that is a good thing.
Saturdays are busy, but it is a great day to spend time with family.

After the sport events were done for the day, we had dinner and played games with the kids in the tent since it is still up. Princess and RHM decided to sleep outside tonight. Brrr. Oldest was smart and stayed in his own bed.
Good man.

Happy Valentine's Day
First date in September of 1994 - almost 15 years ago
Last night - recreated picture
Last night Travis and I went on a double date to recreate parts of our first date. It was fun to celebrate Valentine's Day a little early and I am glad we can avoid the crowds at restaurants tonight. Although, I don't think too many people will be going to our dinner location tonight. He-he.
Kathy and I decided to plan the night, since our husband are busy working men and we have high expectations. It is better to take over than be disappointed! We blindfolded the boys and took them to McD where there was a red table cloth and candles set up for us. Travis had no idea where we were. Travis thought we took them to Starbucks because it smelled like coffee. It was so funny to watch them walk into the McDonald's blindfolded. They thought everyone was staring at them, but only 4 people were even in the store. They walked like we were going to purposely run into tables and chairs. Oops. I did let Travis hit a few chairs. Sorry honey! :( I wasn't the best blind guide. 15 years ago, Travis blind folded me so I would hold his hand. Yesterday, I blind folded him to recreate a memory, but mostly because it was fun to watch! lol
Then we switched gears for the second part of the date, we re-enacted parts of Kathy's "first kiss" date with Juan. They went on a camp out with their FHE group and stayed up most of the night talking for hours. So to recreated a version of this event, my kids set up the tent in our backyard and we decorated it for Valentine's Day. Kathy knew what we were doing, but we surprised Juan. The 4 of us played games in the tent and had a great time talking about the "FIRSTS" with our spouses.
I love my honey.

- First Date - We have a picture of our first date, because I was obsessed with pictures even in college and took a picture of every date I went on. Not really, but that sounded more funny than the truth. Actually it was Homecoming at Ricks and other girls were getting dressed up in formals and taking pictures, so we took one too. Travis and Ben took us blind folded to Wal-Mart, then took us bowling (no blind folds there), and blind folded us to McD's (yes, they really did) where we ate outside to candle light and I believe there was a rose or two. It was a fun date keeping in mind we were poor and in college. I later learned that Travis and Ben were not that creative, but a "player" roommate (Jared) helped them plan the date. It was a great first impression.
Re-enactment Date Night
Since Ben is married and living in Nevada with 3 kids working as a teacher/coach and Denise is married, living in CO with 2 boys and too busy to come for the reenactment (although, I think if she were closer she would totally be up for it - Ben not so much), my friend Kathy was happy to help out.

I am torn and I don't know which way to go
My 3 kids in school had 3 parties today.
Difference between Kinder and 5th grade parties.
- 5th grade - play video games and exchange Valentines (there was food, too). Relaxed and social time for kids.
Sweetie was at Amy's. Check out what she did while we were at the school, here.

Valentine's prep and just a good day
VAPO served the teacher's breakfast this morning. I had very little to do with this event, besides throwing out a table cloth or two, but I wanted to share some pictures. The teachers love these events and there was SO MUCH food that we are serving them breakfast again on Tuesday, next week. Teachers do so much that they deserve even more!
I love teachers!
I also went walking today. I push the baby, or should I say toddler(she is growing up too fast)? And RHM rides his bike. He is so fun. I am going to miss him when he starts 1st grade next year and has school all day. It is only Feb. and I am thinking about August. WEIRD! I need to slow down and live in the PRESENT!
don't cha love the matching outfit on Sweetie?
I had to put on the tights. It was cold. Maybe as cold as 70*. Brrr.
(I think I have lived in Phx too long. My mom calls it climatized.)
Our walks and bike rides are fun times together. I love these moments.

Confession : I love Joshie Baby
And I love to laugh. (Did you know I gave birth to RHM with Joshie baby singing in my ear? TMI? I know. Sorry.)
BTW, if you like Air Supply (* a group that has nothing to do with the above song, but it somehow reminds me of them - read comments to follow), they will be performing at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, AZ Feb. 15th. I thought about taking my friend, Pam, but then it was on a Sunday. Darn it. Pam was the friend that told me the "Paul Harvey" about Air Supply. That information changed me. I didn't know. Call me naive. Really. I didn't. I still love to sing Air Supply in my hair brush. LOVE IT! **Bonnie Tyler made the above song famous - as my friend Marlene corrected me. Oops! So, I don't know my 1983 music very well. ;)
On a side note, I found this piano clip today, too! Thanks Aunt Chris. Loved it. This made RHM laugh and made me wonder how they did it. It must be a youtube day.

I didn't know it, but I was in a clique.
Clique, not click, is defined as -
A small exclusive group of friends or associates.
It isn't fair to say it, but I do. Here is the thing - (don't worry, I am not going where you think I am) I was in a clique too and I didn't even know it.
In High School, there was a "Mormon" table in the common area. I never, ever sat there. People knew I was Mormon, but I never wanted to appear as a separate group, or as exclusive. So what did I do? I did the mature thing and joined the "band" table. So, my snobby self thought I wasn't in a clique, but I was. I was in the band clique.
Life went on. People in college mingled a little more. Just a tad. I really didn't notice any cliques. But I was too busy flirting.
Now, I am an adult. I have been out of college for 12 years now! Ugh. I am old. Back to the subject - Everywhere I look, I see cliques. My snobby self never thought that I would be in a clique, but I am/was/ have been. This past summer 3 friends moved away. I always thought of these girls as my friends, but we never talked daily and I never did things with ONLY them, but... now that they have been gone for over 6 months, I can look back and know that I was in a clique (said sheepishly).
I feel horrible admitting this. This realization has led me to other conclusions.
Here is my difference between High School cliques and adult cliques.
So, if you would like to join me in any of my cliques, please do. Three of my friends moved, so I need to make some more friends and unintentionally form a clique.

I HATE CLIQUES!

- motherhood/ married life - a clique
- That time I went on the trek. That was a trek clique.
- Those years in book club. I was in a clique.
- My cubmaster gig, it is a cub clique.
- VAPO - OH MY GOSH! Do you think some people think that is a clique? IT SO ISN'T!
Here is my difference between High School cliques and adult cliques.
- HS - I seem to remember dirty looks and clear lines in the halls as to what group you belonged to.
- Adults - No dirty looks. No leaving people out on purpose. Natural groups formed based on interested and what you do together. No dividing lines in the hall. Thank goodness.
So, if you would like to join me in any of my cliques, please do. Three of my friends moved, so I need to make some more friends and unintentionally form a clique.
Just don't tell me, "I am in a clique."
I am STILL in denial.
I am STILL in denial.

Dana's bike blog
So are you into eating right, exercise, getting in shape and biking to work? Then you should follow Dana's blog.

Are you my Dad and jealous of how many hits I have on my site? Go to Dana's blog. He wants more traffic, just like you want more site hits. Plus, he is closer to your age than most of my blogger friends and he is a boy - just like you. Maybe you two can work something out.
I will be waiting for some fellow hikers. Hiking before the kids wake up is so much better for my schedule.
Also, Dana and Pam's son leaves on his mission in a week and a half. CRAZY! These kids grow up too fast. I wish him and his parents the best! Missions are great. Blessing abound.

So what if you don't want to get in shape and you are not my dad, you should check out Dana's bike blog anyway. He is serious about losing some weight, funny yet safety conscious, and a freak about his food (but we disagree about that point). Plus, he is Pam's hubby. Remember her, my old hiking buddy (I mean my hiking buddy from the past, not that she is OLD. Don't try to get me in trouble.). I think the sun is up in the mornings so there is NOW plenty of light to hike.
Are you ready to hike again, anyone? All are invited. 6am start time? Who is up for it?

An afternoon after school
We love the weather in Phx this time of year. The older kids do their homework, while I teach piano and the younger two play outside. FUN! So nice.
