8th grade breakfast

 Before the big 8th grade field trip to Cracker Jax, the parents feed the 8th graders breakfast.  It was a fun occasion and made the morning just a little more special.   All of the parents donated all of the food for the breakfast and made it very special.  We fed the teachers and administration too. 

 The highlight was watching the 8th graders color with crayons and paper provided on the table.  They really enjoyed themselves. 

 Then, to my surprise, the 8th graders got their yearbooks a day earlier than the rest of the school.  It was so sweet.

This is the "teacher" table.  We didn't do it on purpose, but the 8th graders all sat at 4 long tables put together and the teachers and admin sat at the other tables.  It was sweet to see the kids all sitting together.  It was funny to watch them sit boys on one side and girls on the other.

After 2 buses and a 20 minute drive to a high school auditorium, we were ready to see a local children's theatre group perform "Beauty and the Beast".  It was super cute, but very, very amateur.  I would have liked it more if my kids was in it, but for a 7th grade field trip it was just ok.  Thank goodness the kids had lunch at Peter Piper.  That made up for the mediocre play. 

8th Grade Dinner

Saturday night was the 8th grade dinner at our small charter school.  I guess our charter school isn't small.  We have close to 800 students, but our 8th grade class is a total of 46.  At this event, each 8th grader is allowed to bring 2 adult guests and the teachers and administration come for dinner and a program.  During the program each teacher takes a minute or two and compliments or tells a story about an 8th grader.  The teachers pick each student that they talk about.  We have 5 core teachers (math, writing, literature, science, and history) and 6 special area teachers (P.E., Spanish, music, library, computers, and art).  The science teacher, Ms. Brasher, talked about 5 students and I was hoping she would talk about my 8th grader, Agent J.  She saved him for last and it was worth the wait.

She told a story about my son and it was hilarious.  I had NO IDEA that he did this.  A lot of kids got a minute or two about how responsible, trusting, and friendly their student is and how the teacher expects great things from this student in the future.  Some kids even had a great story about how this student brought a smile to the teachers face everyday.  But not my son... he does this:

8th grade Dinner/ Dance

 On Friday, May 11 from 4 - 7 p.m. we set up for the Dinner/ Dance. 

 Lots of parents came to help.  (Notice the small "12" in the back and made up a large number 12 on the wall.)

 We had a great time getting ready for this event with months of planning, but as it got closer and closer I just wanted to set up and get this event started! 

 The kids picked lime green and black for the colors and our committee added animal prints to spice it up a bit.

 We had 17 tables with 3 different choices for animal prints: zebra, giraffe, and leopard.

 Princess and other 7th graders were in charge of serving dinner.  She loved every minute of it, can't ya tell?  NOT!
